skate while rummaging through a sporting goods store and decided the design
would be great for off-season hockey-training. They refined the design and
began assembling skates in the basement of their parents' Minneapolis home and
soon founded the company that would become Rollerblade®. Hockey players and
snow skiers quickly began using Rollerblade skates for their training routines. During the early 1980's, the in-line skate market was
limited. Efforts in the mid-80's through grassroots marketing tactics were
introduced in markets like Miami Beach and Venice Beach. Through the middle
80's to late 80's, Rollerblade focused on distribution through sporting goods
retailers, expanding the market through in-line skating events and activities
specific to the sport.
